Why Micato Should Be Your First Choice for Safari

Micato Safaris has landed in the #1 spot on Travel+Leisure’s World’s Best Safari Outfitter list an unprecedented 10 times and has made the list every year since the survey began, making Micato the only tour company in the Travel+Leisure Hall of Fame.

When Felix and Jane Pinto founded Micato Safaris 60 years ago in Africa, their only business plan was to treat guests like family, an approach Travel+Leisure recognized when they wrote “The Pinto family run their show as though they were entertaining well-loved, out-of-town relatives.”

• Micato guests don’t want meaningless bragging rights. They want access to the things that personally interest them, from private meetings with wildlife conservationists and celebrity chefs to helicopter rides over the Great Rift Valley. Micato guests are willing to pay for these elite, one-of-a-kind experiences.

• No matter what the Micato adventure, be it a Classic, Private Classic, or private Custom journey, every Micato safari includes.

-Arrangements handled by dedicated Micato staff both stateside and on the ground, including highly-credentialed Micato Safari Directors who lead journeys every step of the way.

-All meals (and no set menus!) and regional wines, beer, and bottled water at mealtimes. In Southern Africa, spirits are often included, too.

-Park fees, free Wi-Fi in vehicles and camps, and daily valet laundry service.

-Every last gratuity. There’s no tipping, ever, on a Micato safari.

• For luxury clients, hotel concierges cannot do the work of a private concierge, so Micato maintains a 24/7 concierge team to handle the last-minute, unexpected, and unusual requests of our guests.

• Our commitment to service is underscored by Micato guests like Gene Tyler, who in February 2023 wrote: “We never had to worry about a thing because Micato takes care of everything! I was already planning our next trip with Micato in my head even while we were still there!”

• Pro tip: Micato should also be your first choice for India.

The Most Powerful Tool for Sustainable Change Is Education

Micato supports local economies through the educational and community outreach of our not-for-profit foundation, AmericaShare.

While visiting the Harambee Centre in Nairobi, Micato guests meet the student beneficiaries of our programmes, which include a School Scholarship Programme as well as The Micato One for One Commitment, through which we send an African child to school for every guest on safari.

Micato affiliate Huru, founded by AmericaShare’s co-founder Lorna Macleod, keeps girls in school during their periods by supplying them with reusable sanitary pads, produced in Huru’s world-class plant. To date more than 320,000 girls have been the recipients of over 2,400,000 reusable sanitary pads. While visiting Huru headquarters in Nairobi, Micato guests meet the young women from Mukuru trained to sew sanitary pads and school uniforms.

In post-safari questionnaires, Micato travellers often cite visiting AmericaShare and Huru as the highlight of their journeys, which supports our longtime belief that Micato guests come to see the animals, but leave in love with the people.
